Rangers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
The Rangers were faced with difficult choices since the World Series started in a National League park and under NL rules.
Either start designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero in the outfield and sacrifice some defense, or sit Guerrero and sacrifice some offense.
The Rangers tried it both ways in the first two games.
Neither worked.
After Guerrero made a pair of errors in right field in Game 1, the Rangers sat him down and put Nelson Cruz back in right. The hitch was that Cruz also had to move up to the fourth spot to replace Guerrero. That didn't work out so well. Cruz was hitless in four at-bats, including a foul pop with the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the sixth inning.
"I think my approach is the same," Cruz said about moving into the cleanup...

Perhaps the most peculiar thing about the 2010 Pirates, given that they finished 57-105 for one of the worst seasons in franchise history, is that the last thing any executive would do is blow them up.
Not completely, anyway.
Half of the everyday lineup—the top half of the order, actually—is made up of young, well-performing players who still are under the team's control for at least five more years. That would be Andrew McCutchen and rookies Neil Walker, Jose Tabata and Pedro Alvarez. All of them not only performed above the league average at their respective positions, particularly impressive for young players.

The Padres overachieved this season.
Ninety wins out of a $40 million payroll. They outperformed six of the eight teams with payrolls topping $100 million—including posting one more win than the Boston Red Sox, who spent four times the Padres' budget.
But they wore down at the end of the season, going 14-23 over the final 37 games to miss winning the National League West by two games and the wild-card berth by a game.
So where do the Padres go from here?
The offseason promises to be even more interesting than the amazing 2010 season.

Athletics Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Oakland's pitching was second to none in the American League—and that was after season-ending injuries to the only two veteran starters, Ben Sheets and Justin Duchscherer.
With a rotation that averaged 23 years of age most of the season, the A's led the league in ERA and in shutouts and Trevor Cahill and Gio Gonzalez emerged as top-notch starters. Cahill made the AL All-Star team and won 18 games; Gonzalez won 15.
Oakland's defense was sound, particularly when center fielder Coco Crisp was not on the disabled list (he missed nearly half the season because of injuries) and the baserunning was a key component: The A's stole 156 bases, 50 by Rajai Davis.
The one clear area of need: power.
