A seven-day disabled list for concussions wouldn't have done Aaron Hill much good when the Toronto Blue Jays second baseman missed the final four months of 2008 with the injury. That didn't stop him from saying the move, and several other guidelines instituted by Major League Baseball on Tuesday, was another positive sign the sport is doing more and more to address concussions.

Everett was the everyday shortstop for the Houston Astros from 2001-2007 before signing with the Minnesota Twins in 2008. He played for the Detroit Tigers for a season and a half before he was cut in June of 2010. Everett signed a minor league free agent contract with the Cleveland Indians with the hope of making the team as a utility infielder.

Jackson hits winning RBI double for A's (AP)
Conor Jackson finally got some good results out of one of those good swings he's been taking. Jackson doubled in the game-winning run with one out to give the Oakland Athletics a 6-5 victory against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Jackson's game-ending hit came after Andy LaRoche singled in pinch-runner Jemile Weeks.

Sizemore back in outfield as Indians beat Arizona (AP)
Grady Sizemore moved into shallow center field and located the pop fly in the bright sky. "I got it! I got it!" he yelled. It was a routine play, but one he had not made for a long time in a game. The Cleveland star took another step in his recovery from microfracture surgery on his left knee in June, playing the field for the first time in the Indians' 7-3 victory over the Arizona...

Gordon Beckham and the Chicago White Sox are heating up. Beckham hit a two-run homer in Chicago's three-run first inning, leading a split-squad of White Sox to a 5-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night. The White Sox have 33 extra-base hits and 43 runs in their last five games. Beckham finished with three hits against Arizona and is 9 for 18 with four RBIs in his last five.

Beltran plays in two minor league games (AP)
Carlos Beltran took another step in his return to the New York Mets from left knee tendinitis, serving as the designated hitter in two minor league games Tuesday. Beltran went 2 for 8 with a double and home run, hitting from both sides of the plate. But he did not play the field and was replaced by a pinch-runner after the double.

Fan's take: My top five ceremonial Opening Day first pitches (Associated Content)
Being a rabid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, I have seen some pretty ugly ceremonial Opening Day first pitches. This article takes a look back at my top five list of these pitches that went astray. Ever since President William Howard Taft threw out the first pitch by a president, the opening ceremonial first pitch has become an event and an adventure. These are not listed in any particular order. 1. April 2, 2007 . The mayor of Cincinnati, Mark Malloy, missed the catcher and even hit the umpire, standing 10 feet away.

Fan perspective: Casey Blake headed to the DL? (Associated Content)
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to struggle with spring training injuries and they may put third baseman Casey Blake on the disabled list to start the season. Blake has been struggling with inflammation in his lower back and his rib cage and the Dodgers sent Casey for an MRI last week. If Los Angeles puts Blake on the DL, he will join Vicente Padilla and Jon Garland who have also struggled with injury issues during the spring. Blake is not necessarily a cornerstone player, but the Dodgers cannot afford to lose any more of their roster to the disabled list.

Big bats deliver for Rays in 11-2 win over Marlins (AP)
When the Tampa Bay Rays get their big-name bats going, they can score runs in a hurry. Johnny Damon, Evan Longoria and Manny Ramirez each had two hits Tuesday as Tampa Bay cruised to an 11-2 victory over the Florida Marlins. Ramirez and B.J. Upton both hit their second home run of the spring for the Rays.

Fan perspective: Will Grady Sizemore be ready for Opening Day? (Associated Content)
I have my pair of tickets in hand for game #1 against the Chicago White Sox on April 1, 2011. Who could miss all the festivities and the start of the regular season? Could this be the year the Cleveland Indians go all the way for the first time since 1948? While I am looking forward to watching Shin-Soo Choo and the rest of my Cleveland Indians start the season against a Central Division rival, I am hopeful that fan favorite and three-time American League All-Star Grady Sizemore will be able to take the field with the rest of the team.

Fan's view: New Florida catcher John Buck has me forgetting Ronny Paulino and believing in the Marlins (Associated Content)
Posted on | Monday, March 21, 2011 | No Comments
The Florida Marlins, a team I've rooted for since their inception, have had a tough time finding a reliable player to hold down the catcher position since their last World Series title when they enjoyed the services of perennial All-Star Ivan Rodriguez. Among those they've tried over the years was Ronny Paulino, who is back in the majors with the New York Mets . Paulino, the starting catcher for the Marlins throughout much of the 2010 season, was suspended for 50 games beginning last Aug.

Fan's view: The top 5 pitching rotations in Major League Baseball history (Associated Content)
With the addition of Cliff Lee many baseball fans think the Philadelphia Phillies have one of the best pitching rotations of all-time. Unfortunately, my family grew up on the other side of Pennsylvania and my Pittsburgh Pirates don't exactly have the same quality pitching staff. Instead I have to longingly watch the Phillies pitching staff from afar as they try and join the following teams as the best pitching staffs of all-time. 1993 Atlanta Braves The team that most baseball fans remember is the pitching staff that led the Atlanta Braves to 13...

Tigers fan perspective: Cabrera will continue to carry the team (Associated Content)
Ever since the Tigers acquired Miguel Cabrera in 2007, there has been hope. The reliability of an MVP in the lineup cannot be overlooked and regardless of off-field incidents (drinking scotch to the face in front of a cop, etc.), Cabrera has been nothing short of reliable. Isn't it fun to have a player in the middle of the order that you essentially expect to clock one to the outfield? It's kind of of hard to remember that Cabrera is merely turning 28 next month.

Like many other baseball fans across the USA, I have my top five opening baseball days for the St. Louis Cardinals. Keep in mind, that these are the games that I actually got to see either by being there or watching it. They were all after 1950. They are not listed in any particular order. 1967 This was the second season for the New Busch Memorial Stadium in downtown St. Louis. Harry Carey and Jack Buck were still the radio announcers. Fan's view: Brewers need to solidify the closer and name a No. 5 starter (Associated Content)
Spring training is winding down and teams are starting to set their regular daily lineups and finalize their pitching rotations. Coming into spring training, most of these decisions appeared to have already been made for the Milwaukee Brewers. Most teams are looking at players who are fighting to fill out their final roster spots and fill roles in the bullpen, but if you are a longtime Brewers fan like I am, it is never that easy. While the closer spot has been gifted to John Axford, his youth and inexperience may hurt the team early in the season.

Fan outlook: Top 5 storylines in 2011 for the San Francisco Giants (Associated Content)

It's that time of the year again. It seems like yesterday I was watching the San Francisco Giants stroll down Market St. in their decked out cable cars. In fact, I still remember the odd mixture of moisture in my eyes and joy as the Giants celebrated one of the most unlikely championship seasons in a while. This is the time for optimism and eagerness, which comes every year around this time for baseball fans. And as a longtime Giants fan, this year's outlook is brighter than it has been in a long time.

Fan reaction: Polanco latest Phillies player to battle injury (Associated Content)
Spring training for the Philadelphia Phillies is starting to resemble a hospital. Placido Polanco is the latest player to be listed as injured. With injuries already afflicting Chase Utley, Domonic Brown, and Brad Lidge, that is not good news for Philadelphia Phillies fans, such as myself. The Polanco injury doesn't seem serious yet, but it is a concern. This is an aging team with a lot of expectations. However, injuries continue to be an issue throughout spring.

Fan talk: The 'Philly Phour' -- the 2011 Philadelphia Phillies dream team pitching rotation (Associated Content)
It didn't take long to give it a name -- the "Philly Phour," as in, the starting four pitchers in the 2011 pitching rotation for the Philadelphia Phillies. Soon after the Phillies signed Cliff Lee in December, someone stuck that moniker on the foursome, which includes Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, and Cole Hamels. Some have already begun hearing "Flying High Now" (the theme from "Rocky") and believe they could become the best starting rotation in history, while some are suspending judgment until after they've pitched a few...
