Indians Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
It was a roller coaster season for the Indians.
At the start, expectations were zero for Cleveland, which, coming off a 93-loss year, many prognosticators felt would battle Kansas City to stay out of the AL Central basement.
The Indians lost the first two games of the season with their pitchers giving up 23 runs, seemingly validating those predictions. But then the Indians went on a six-week tear. They won 14 home games in a row, and on May 23, they reached their high point of the season. Their record was 30-15, and they were in first place in the AL Central by seven games.
Following that, however, it was a methodical march back to reality?although not as grim a reality as everyone predicted prior to the season.

Emergency starter pounded by Brewers (AP)
Matt Maloney's emergency start quickly turned terrible. Carlos Gomez and Prince Fielder each hit two-run homers in the first and Zack Greinke breezed through seven sharp innings, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday for a series sweep. Maloney was pressed into service as Cincinnati's starting pitcher after Dontrelle Willis developed back spasms.

Posted on | Friday, September 16, 2011 | No Comments
Hanley Ramirez doesn't like to make excuses for his disappointing season, but the Marlins believe he would've had a better season if his left shoulder had been completely healthy all year.
Ramirez entered the season a .313 career hitter who averaged about 25 home runs and 78 RBI over his first five seasons. He had his worst year in 2011, batting .242 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI in 92 games, and it might've been related to his sore left shoulder.
"He's a three-time All Star and one of the five best position players in the game and he wasn't producing the way we were accustomed to him producing," general manager Mike Hill said Friday.
