General manager Frank Wren isn't shy about sending a message when he has to, and he wasted no time doing that during a meeting with the Braves' beat reporters after the season came to a screeching halt. As in this response to a question about right-handed starter Derek Lowe's status next season:

"It's hard to project him as one of our starters at this point," Wren said, "based on the young talent we have."

Young talent, by the way, that Wren is not looking to use in trades. And he didn't need Lowe blocking the rookies' path. So on Halloween, the Braves agreed to eat $10 million of Lowe's $15 million 2012 salary and traded him to the Indians for left-hander Chris Jones, who pitched at Class A Kinston last season.
